Parkway / Hwy 41 Ribbon Cutting DELAYED!

I received an email this evening saying the May 19th ceremony is not happening:
Hi Paul,
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Parkway has been delayed again.  There seems to be issues with the City of North Port (as usual).  JP says the ceremony is tentatively scheduled for June 13th- but that could change--- He will let me know the exact date as soon as it known so we may notify residents who would like to attend.  They do still plan on trying to open the Parkway in May at some point but no set date as of yet.  I will keep you posted.  Thanks.

Sorry Mike, I don't have any details. I'm forwarding this request to Eddie W., a GP resident. Eddie gave me the heads up on the delay, and he will hopefully be attending next weeks WVID meeting where he can ask the question. I'm on vacation, up-North, now for a few weeks. Should be back by end of month.

Hi Mike and Paul, I don't have any details but I believe the only problem with the city is that of scheduling to
make sure all the North Port officials can be there. I am sure the city is eager to take credit for the parkway while at the same time distancing themselves from the ongoing problems within the WVID. I will check on the delays and report back any new info. I know that the WVID was trying to complete the lanes on the other side of the intersection prior to opening the parkway so as to ensure traffic would not accidentally cross over into oncoming traffic. Completion of the Islandwalk side of the intersection has been delayed for months due to a utility pole that was blocking completion of the northbound lane. The WVID went ahead and paid Verizon to remove their cables on the pole after they refused to do so.
