Zip Change Postponed; Still Bad Feelings

It looks like the City of North Port will back away from seeking a zip code change for West Villages!  At least for the time being; but this issue will resurface sooner rather than later.  Although this was NOT an agenda item for the 10/12/10 commission meeting it did come up for discussion during the "Communications" portion of the agenda.  The results of the postal survey in September were 228 against and 0 for a zip code change.  A formal letter to the city from the USPS is coming.

Do You Know a Snowbird ?

It occurs to me that the timing of the USPS survey mailing about the proposed zip code change favors the City of North Port.  Over one-half, about 180 homeowners, in the district are part-time or seasonal residents. They may not even receive the survey letter!  How will the USPS "count" these non-responses to the survey?

If you know anyone that isn't here now, please, please, please, CONTACT THEM IMMEDIATELY. Ask if they received the survey form; ask them to complete it and mail it in.  If they didn't get a survey form, please, please, please, email them this link to a copy of the form that they can print, complete, and mail.

USPS Zip Code Change Survey is in the Mail

Alright all us West Villages residents living in IslandWalk and Gran Paradiso, time to get motivated and to make your voices heard. The USPS is delivering survey letters to all households asking for your feedback on the proposed zip code change for our neighborhood.  At the request of the City of North Port Commissioners, the USPS wants to change our mailing addresses to North Port, FL 34287.  Now that I've typed it and am looking at it......I think I need to barf!

WVID Votes on Zip Code Change

At a regular scheduled meeting of the WVID on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, the Board of Supervisors heard from a representative of the City of North Port asking that the WVID submit a letter to the regional postal authorities which would recommend changing the address and zip code for the district to something in North Port.  Dozens of homeowners and residents of the district also attended the meeting and voiced their strong objection to such a change at this time.  By a vote of 5-0 the WVID Board decided that this issue was not within their scope of activities and that they would not comment for or against the request from the City of North Port.
