What is an Annual Land Owners Meeting?

Having never been to one I thought the best way to learn about the Annual Land Owners Meeting would be to read the minutes of the last one in 2010. The meeting lasted exactly 7 minutes!

Outgoing supervisor Lamar Maddox was the only qualified candidate for his own vacancy. Eric Anderson (a current WVID board Supervisor) was present with the proxy vote for Fourth Quarter Properties. This block of votes represents the largest and also the majority block of votes in the district. Sam Rogers was present with the second largest block of votes. Also present were several property owners, each with their own single vote. Mr. Maddox was "elected" by acclamation to a new four year term as Supervisor, and the meeting adjourned.

Short, sweet, and to the point. What is the point? The point is that the WVID is not really the limited purpose, State chartered, and regulated, government entity that it appears to be on paper. It is a State sanctioned, developer controlled, public funding mechanism for providing infrastructure within the district. Don't confuse government with business; WVID is just another business unit of Fourth Quarter Properties and we individual property owners are just along for the ride.

Hi Eddie. Glad to see you are still following the blog. Its not all bad; the district is doing some good work making the infrastructure needed to grow the community. We in IslandWalk are paying $100's per year, unfortunately you in Gran Paradiso are paying $1,000's per year; but the developers are paying $millions per year for their assessments. We're all in this together. Its just unfortunate that Gran Paradiso never really got off the ground. Perhaps this year will see a new developer stepping into the picture, and some growth in your village as well.

Hi Paul, you may hear some news regarding another builder soon. There are some talks ongoing- all hush hush for now. I had a meeting with JP Marchand last week as I continue to work closely with the WVID on many things. They should be replacing the burned out bulbs along US 41 soon. When most of those who now live in Gran Paradiso built we had the option of having our bonds paid off or taking a lump sum off the build price, so all is not as bad as it sounds regarding the bond payments. I tell you, I feel like I have a second full time job dealing with all the parties involved. The WVID US 41 landscape enhancement project has been a disaster so far- more and more money and worse and worse results. April should be a very interesting month as many deadlines take affect. Take care and keep up the good work on the blog.
