Short meeting; just 33 minutes start to finish; but, very informative! The Parkway/Hwy 41 intersection is still scheduled to open late April, but no firm date has been set for a grand opening ceremony. In a conference call last month the bond holders have affirmed their non-support of any further work on the Gran Paradiso amenities center until such time as a viable builder or developer enters into the project and commits time and money to the development. They suggested a six month wait-and-see period before any action be considered. Speculation at the meeting was that this time frame coincided with the April 1st tax deadline and the subsequent June 1st tax certificate auction for unpaid taxes.
That speculation prompted a request by board members about the current status of 2010 non-ad valorem tax payments. The District Manager stated that as of 3/21/11 only around $250,000 of the total $10,000,000 or so in assessments had been received. I don't think we will know until April 1st who will pay and who won't. The bad news will probably be delivered at the April district meeting. Previously, the District Manager had stated that it was customary for the large developers with the big assessments to wait until the last minute to make their tax payments, so perhaps we will all be pleasantly surprised on April Fools day (not!).
The District Manager also announced the vacancy of one Supervisor position on the board come June 2011, and stated that candidates for the office could contact his office between now and the end of May during the legislated 90 day open qualification period for candidates to declare their intentions. The actual election will be held at the Land Owners Annual Meeting on June 28, 2011 to be held at an as yet unannounced location within the limits of the City of North Port as required by the State legislative charter.

Thanks for update. Any news on when the back entrance into Island Walk will be ready? It will be much safer getting onto and off of hwy 41 with the benefit of the traffic light at West Villages Parkway.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mike Nevinger
The various development agreements with the City of North Port require that the second entrance to IslandWalk (connection to the Parkway) be done (or started; I don't know which) when there are 500 roof tops in IslandWalk. Don't know if that means just sold properties, or actual completed and occupied structures. At a previous WVID meeting, it was stated that DiVosta was responsible for the cost of making the actual connection to the existing Parkway, and that DiVosta already owned the land needed for the right-of-way to make this connection. We are somewhere around 400 roof tops at this time.

There won't be a traffic light at the Hwy 41 / West Villages Parkway intersection for some time to come. There are NO plans for one at this time, and the area will have to grow significantly before one does come. My guess....it will be tied to development of the Publix shopping center rather than roof tops or traffic flow.
