WVID Votes on Zip Code Change

At a regular scheduled meeting of the WVID on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, the Board of Supervisors heard from a representative of the City of North Port asking that the WVID submit a letter to the regional postal authorities which would recommend changing the address and zip code for the district to something in North Port. Dozens of homeowners and residents of the district also attended the meeting and voiced their strong objection to such a change at this time. By a vote of 5-0 the WVID Board decided that this issue was not within their scope of activities and that they would not comment for or against the request from the City of North Port.

I was at the meeting at the college. I was very glad to see that the WVID board decided not to send a letter of support to the US Post Office regarding the zip code change. Did you know . . . As of today, 9/16/10, I contacted my auto insurance carrier, Geico, and was informed that with a change from Venice to North Port, there will be a 13% increase in my 6 month premiums per vehicle. Be sure to check your insurance agents too, it may affect you. This would be one of several adverse outcomes to a zip code change. Please send your survey back before September 30th.
