Any lawyers live in the WVID? If I read F.S. 189.4051 correctly we may be able to petition for a referendum question that would allow at least 1 resident property owner to be "elected" to the Board of Supervisors by registered voters in the district. The one acre/one vote rule can be overcome.
Someone please read through this and tell me if I'm right? http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=Ch0189/titl0189.htm&StatuteYear=2009&Title=-%3E2009-%3EChapter%20189
There must be at least 500 registered voters (who are also property freeholders or their spouses) living in the district to be eligible. Ten percent of us must sign the petition. With about 350 homes built in IslandWalk and Gran Paradiso and 2 persons per household, that's about 700 voters; BUT, how many are snow birds and not registered voters?
Chapter 189 is the governing law for our Independent, Special Tax District. The legislation that created our tax district does not require popularly elected supervisors until there are 6,000 home owners! I can't wait that long...not getting any younger these days.
