Historic Information Only

This blog has been running for just over a year now, and except for a very few home owners in Gran Paradiso and IslandWalk, I feel as though I'm just talking to myself. This will be the last post to the blog. It will remain active on the Internet only as a repository of background and historical information about the district.

This picture represents the reason I started this blog in the first place. In early 2009, a group of IslandWalk home owners took exception to the wording that was to be placed on these monuments at the entrances to our district. They thought that the West Villages was something that it wasn't. They submitted a petition to the City of North Port Commissioners, demanding the wording be changed and claiming that the district was more closely aligned with Venice than with the City of North Port. This misguided effort has served to alienate us from the City, and to this day is still the source of bad feelings between "us" and "them". Last year's "zip code issue" just served to continue and fuel the discord.

This blog was started to inform district residents of the true nature of the West Villages Improvement District, and the history and relationship that exists between the WVID and City of North Port. The simple fact is that the WVID would never have been created, or our homes and community built, if it were not for the City of North Port having annexed this land back in 2002. It was the City's vision and support then that allowed the creation and development of the WVID we now call home.

The various graphics and many links at the bottom of this blog page will remain available for the use of any interested parties. I will endeavor to keep these links current; but do not intend to make anymore postings to the blog, and I have closed the blog to contributor posting as well.

Whatever the district and city do now and in the future; how the district develops and changes with time; and whatever amount of public bond money is spent over the years will be determined by "them". For the most part "we" have stood by, fat-dumb-and happy, and not been involved constructively in the process.
