URGENT NEWS: WVID RECLAIMED IRRIGATION WATER RUNS DRY!

I just received an email from WVID engineer JP Marchand who asked me to pass on the following information to all residents of Gran Paradiso and all in the District who rely on the reclaimed irrigation for their lawn and common area watering.

Eddie, we have a problem with our irrigation water supply and I am wondering if you could pass this info on to some of the other residents.
We have pumped all the available water out of our irrigation storage lake and cannot get any more water delivered until Monday morning. We usually get our irrigation water from the Englewood Water District (EWD). They are out of water and the well pump that provides them with an emergency dry weather supply has broken. I’ve been on the phone with them daily this week and the best they can do is get us water on Monday.
In an situation like this our back up has been to get water from an agricultural well on Thomas Ranch. We had requested that but their pump also went down and they cannot get anyone out to work on it until Monday.
Finally, we also had our irrigation pump technicians out at our storage lake and pump site yesterday to see if they could override any of the switches that stop the pumps when the water in the lake gets too low. Unfortunately, the lake is so low that our pumps start pulling in air instead of water and that would ruin the pumps.
We also considered using two small wells that the District has but those wells are too far away and too small to make any difference in our lake level.
So, we have no additional water available until Monday. I am continuing to coordinate with the EWD and Thomas Ranch to get as much water as soon as possible from either of them but they are having their own problems as noted above.
Thks, JP

Please stay tuned for updates on this developing story!

If I remember right, everything on Hwy 41 uses the reclaimed water. I've always thought that IW irrigation water came from our lake system; but don't know for sure. Will have to look around and see if our sprinklers are working.

A few days with no water shouldn't hurt the plants; but if it runs to a few weeks, we can expect $100 of thousands in dead plants. Guess there will be something else to talk about at the next WVID meeting?

Paul, I know that when it first opened, IW used the man made lake system for the irrigation, but remember being told a while back that was no longer being done, but I don't know for sure. I am alarmed at the fact the reclaimed system is already in crisis considering the number of homes using the system is tiny compared to what might have been the case had the developments grown at the expected rate before the recession. I will let you know more as soon as I hear more from JP the first of the week. Let's all hope we start getting some measurable rain soon! Take care.

I will have an update on the irrigation water situation tomorrow (Tuesday) as I will be meeting with JP. As of tonight (Monday) the irrigation water has been restore for now.
