WVID Meeting 04/12/11

No new info on tax payments. District Manager stated that no funds had yet been received from the tax collectors office, and he offered no further information. District Engineer stated the Parkway / Hwy 41 intersection would not be ready to open until early May. Verizon has moved its phone lines; but now there is a scheduling issue with FPL to move the pole. He is trying to schedule a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the 3rd or 4th week in May with the City of North Port and County Commissioners.

Another incident of electrical wire theft has occurred along the North side of Hwy 41 fronting Gran Paradiso. Thieves cut the street lighting wire in multiple locations and removed some of the cut wire. This is the third such incident within the District.

The main purpose of this meeting was to get Supervisor approval to consider purchase of 6.4 acres of land at the River Rd. / Hwy 41 intersection. District has been trying to purchase about 1.2 acres of this land for needed right-of-way for the intersection improvement plan. The bank holding the land has been non-responsive to these requests. District Engineer stated that the additional land could possibly be used to satisfy the district development plan requirement to give the City of North Port a 5 acre parcel for a future city hall annex and police sub-station building. Purchasing the needed 1.2 acres of right-of-way will save over $400,000 in intersection construction costs. Supervisors approved further action by staff to investigate this purchase further.
