Zip Change Postponed; Still Bad Feelings

It looks like the City of North Port will back away from seeking a zip code change for West Villages!  At least for the time being; but this issue will resurface sooner rather than later.  Although this was NOT an agenda item for the 10/12/10 commission meeting it did come up for discussion during the "Communications" portion of the agenda.  The results of the postal survey in September were 228 against and 0 for a zip code change.  A formal letter to the city from the USPS is coming.

The entire city commission meeting is recorded.  Its over 2 hours long; but you can FAST FORWARD to 42 minutes into the meeting and view the 10 minute discussion that took place about our proposed zip code change:

The Sarasota Herald Tribune published an article in today's paper about the zip code issue. Read it at http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20101017/ARTICLE/10171059/-1/todayspaper?Title=West-Villages-residents-shun-North-Port

The article says the USPS survey tally was 266 AGAINST and 8 FOR the proposed zip code change.
